It wasn't that long ago that I was just starting out on my entrepreneurial journey as a Chiropractor. I had just opened up my own practice in a town that's population was around 20,000 and I was terrified. It wasn't that school hadn't prepared me for being a Doctor. It wasn't that I didn't have a great medical community to refer patients to when their condition fell outside of my expertise.
The problem that I was facing as a young Chiropractor was the same problem that all independent entrepreneurs face when they first open up their businesses. I was struggling to figure out how in the heck I was going to get the word out to the community and stand out from my competitors in my market.
At the time there were around 7 other Chiropractors that I was competing with and all of them were either from that area originally, had been practicing there for at least 10 years already, or both. Either way it fell, I was at a disadvantage at every turn if you put me up against these other businesses and we were competing for the same customers every single day.
So how did I make it work for my startup Chiropractic Practice?
It started with the choice that I made to build my own website and do my own branding. This was a risky choice back in 2011 because it wasn't easy to build your own stuff and I wasn't a trained marketer at the time.
I did the best I could and I searched for a Wordpress Template that I thought looked pretty good and I dove into learning how to customize it to fit "Adkins Chiropractic".
It must have taken me two weeks to get that template looking the way that I wanted to. I would work in my clinic and saw patients between 8AM-6PM and then I would come home and have dinner with my wife. After that I would dive into my computer and try to figure out hosting, ftp, and how Wordpress themes worked. Sometimes I would stay up until 2 in the morning working on it and then I would get right back up and do it all again the next day.
When it finally went live, however, things started working fast. Within a few weeks of my website going live, I started getting tons of phone calls from perspective patients that wanted to book an appointment.
So why did this new site work so well so fast?
Before I had even started building that first website for my Chiropractic practice I had done some very interesting research. I searched "CITY NAME Chiropractor" (where the "city name" was the name of the town that I was currently practicing in).
That simple web search showed me something that blew me away.
All of the other Chiropractors in town had completely neglected their websites. All of the sites from the other offices in town were either non-existent or had been built 5 years prior. To me this represented a big opportunity. That opportunity was something that I could take advantage of quickly.
Even back then I realized something extremely important.
When someone searches for your business, your website make a critically important first impression. If your site looks outdated and unorganized, your potential customer will assume that the inside of your business is exactly the same. That may not be a fair judgement but it's exactly what happens in the mind of someone who is comparing the businesses that they might spend their money with.
So that's what happened. In a town of around 20,000 I had a website that looked the most professional, up to date, and organized. To top all of that off, within a few weeks up putting my website up, I had ranked for the top search term in the city. "City Name Chiropractor" was officially mine when you searched inside of Google. I was the first person anyone saw when they were looking for a Chiropractor.
It wasn't that I was some search engine genius. My site just played by the rules. At the time, Wordpress was my hero because it delivered business through the door. Even though it was a battle to learn how it worked and to get everything set up, it had delivered for me and it was something that I was eternally grateful for as my office started to grow.
I used wordpress for years in both my practice and when I would help some of my fellow business owner friends to build their websites. Wordpress was a great tool for me until it just wasn't anymore.
Between the difficulty of using it as well as the constant security concerns that come with a tool that is an open source as wordpress is, it started to become more of a liability than an asset.
Right around that time a host of other page builders started to come on to the scene. Whether it was Leadpage, Clickfunnels, and Shopify, it became clear that there was a huge demand for an easier way to build webpages to grow your business.
I used every single one of them and spent years happy with my ability to build sales funnels with these new tools.
The problem was that you couldn't really do any of the things that a normal website did with these page editors (page menus, blogs, social media updates, etc). These platforms were all great at doing one thing but they left us lacking when it came to having a central website that did everything that we needed.
In short, they were great for short term marketing projects but terrible for building a website that was our home base and did all of the cool list building and marketing things we needed.
We looked for years to find the right platform to build what we needed in a website. After complaining about the problem for years, we decided that it was time to either do something about it or shut up.
As my business evolved and I created other side businesses, I realized that I needed a platform that allowed me to create a beautiful core website, marketing pages, as well as dynamically pulled in content like my podcast automatically.
Most importantly, I needed a platform that evolved automatically with my business (without me having to constantly update my site).
Not only can you build a beautiful website with Net Engine fast (using one of our many amazing templates), you can also have the site automatically update itself every single time you upload a youtube video, publish a new podcast, post a new photo on instagram, or even when you get a new review posted from one of your customers.
Your website does all of this while staying fast, mobile optimized, and secure.
